Where was Rickford Burke and his Guyana Institute for
Democracy ( GID ) when Desmond Hoyte ruled Guyana with a fist of terror? Does he
and his executive know the meaning of the word democracy? It seems
not.
It is quite alarming and ominous that the GID chose an
arrogant autocrat as Patrick Manning for their " Democracy prize". A dangerous
precedent has now been set that will only serve to fuel Manning's greed for
absolute power, to the further detriment of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
The creeping curse of tyranny that is strangling T&T has been empowered
thanks to the folly of the GID. WARD strongly denounces this shocking decision
by the GID.
Patrick Manning is a
dictator to the bone, in the guise of a democratically elected leader. He is the
last and least person in the Western Hemisphere who deserves a " democracy
prize."
Good governance disintegrated when Manning resumed power in December
2001 while his spurious democratic values are only a facade. He and his party
have fumbled and stumbled since ANR Robinson handed him the crown two years ago.
He is a blind visionary and he could
not even foretell the harm his gas
price increase would have on the citizens of T&T. His desperate, sinister
utterances, especially in recent times are loud and clear for all to hear,
including the hypocritical GAD. Manning and his stooges represent a
horrible threat beyond imagination to the peace and freedom of our twin islands.
WARD can only conclude that Burke and Wayne Turner either
have their heads buried in a cesspool of racism or the GAD is a supremacist
organization whose policies and aims coincide with those of Manning.
When
Manning receives that award on December 12th. it will be a travesty of justice
and an insult to all freedom loving people. In all honesty, Manning should get
the " Oppressor prize
"
instead.
