Culture of Death

Despite being Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces in Guyana President Bharrat Jagdeo has demonstrated his lack of ability to stop atrocities against his own supporters. This year alone has seen an increase in criminal activities rising to horrendous proportions. In the last two weeks 11 persons has been slaughtered. The criminals continue to be protected in Buxton, where they plan their nefarious activates. A few weeks ago a police officer was chopped to death while his colleague sat in his police jeep observing. That is the typical response to crime from the authorities.

The main target of criminals are people of Indian heritage. There are many in Guyana who have lost loved ones. A brother, a father, a mother, a sister or a child. These are real people whose only desire is to live, work and take care of their family. They have been "cut down" by criminals protected by law enforcement. The police knows where the criminals are hiding but they are not responding to get rid of this disease.

Guyanese people continue to suffer from the indifference of their government. Indifference is a horrible malady , especially when it infect a government. It means that the government has chosen to do nothing while it citizens suffer the brutality of the mob. It can be liken to a man standing watch while his wife is being rape. He cares but not enough to react.  There are several things that can be done. However, in the past, this government knew that Indian people have guns and they sent in the army to take it away. It is ok for the criminals to have the guns but not the citizens.

President Jagdeo with his communist training and dumb ideology will be given the honor of being the chief guest of Indian Prime Minister at the Pravasi function to be held in January 2004. This is his reward for not having the courage to deal with the criminals who continue to murder Indians in Guyana. Ironically, the Pravasi meeting is to honor a man who fought tirelessly to defend Indian rights. Talk about hypocrisy........

Constable 19314 Jairam Shiwram, 30, was a recent graduate of the police academy. His killer was a man who was declared to be insane. This man was stopped by a friend of the Jairam family when he was chopping the officer. He was slightly wounded and according  to Starbroek News , this man was seen wandering in the hospital without any police guard.  To date the officer who witnessed the attack and did nothing is still working in the police force.

There has not been a word from the Guyana Human Rights Organization - Amnesty International  or from Nigel Hughes a criminal  and former President of the Guyana Bar Association. It must be noted that Mr. Hughes along with Amnesty International assisted in putting two police officers behind bars
