The parents of kidnapped taxi driver Vivekanand
Nandalall arrived in the country early
yesterday morning from the United States of America and broke down
in tears as they launched fresh appeals for the release of their
only son.

Ramdeo
and Priya Nandalall as they made a tearful
plea for
the safe return of their son
Ramdeo and Priya Nandalall between heaving sobs offered to give
anything to have their second-born returned unharmed. Nandalall,
20, of Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara, was last seen on the
evening of October 16, when the dispatcher of a taxi service asked
him to pick up a passenger on the road at the entrance of the Imax
housing scheme nearby.

His car, PGG 3846, was found the morning after the “pick
up”, abandoned on the railway embankment at Annandale and a man
subsequently contacted relatives and demanded $5M in exchange for
the young man. That sum was later reduced and early Saturday
morning, a relative dropped off $1M, but that failed to secure
Nandalall’s release. Relatives said they lost all contact with
the abductors after the money was delivered.
It was an emotional scene yesterday, as relatives and friends
gathered at Nandalall’s home to comfort his parents.
Ramdeo Nandalall stated: “I appeal out there, whosoever have
him, please, ayo come forward. Say what you all want, I am willing
to give you all what you all want. But I want him back, I really
need him...”
The young man’s mother, popularly known as ‘Savi’, said when
she first heard the news, she couldn’t speak for almost a whole
day.
“I was in shock...I can’t believe this is happening to him.
He, out of all kids...doesn’t deserve this. We don’t deserve
this. We are not the type of people that doing wrong things...I
don’t know what wrong in the world I do, but I don’t deserve
this,” the woman managed to say before breaking down into tears
again.
The police yesterday said they were still conducting
investigations and one of Nandalall’s relatives told this
newspaper that after receiving a tip, they launched another search
of the backdams early yesterday morning, but to no avail.
Just under four months ago, the car was transferred into
Nandalall’s name and the young man used the vehicle to keep
himself employed. Stabroek News understands that he was scheduled
to join his parents in North America, but later changed his mind.
A senior police source yesterday told Stabroek News that the
investigation into Nandalall’s abduction was continuing and that
“these investigations could include searches”. The police are
also continuing to check records for matches of the fingerprints
lifted off the young man’s vehicle.
Last Tuesday, the police said they had searched some 87
houses/buildings in the Buxton, Eastville, Bare Root and Paradise
areas, and arrested, detained and/or questioned 23 persons.
The police have engaged over 50 ranks from their Anti- kidnapping
Unit, Tactical Services Unit, Criminal Investigation Department
(CID) and Anti-Crime Units. On Monday, the police said they were
hunting for a number of key suspects whom they believe can assist
in the investigation.
These include Albert Andrews aka ‘Doney’, Roger Bunbury aka
‘Don Dick’, Marvin Archer aka Marvin Peters or ‘Skittle’,
Royston Peters and Rondell Rollins aka ‘Fine Man’, all of
whom, the police believe, are hiding out in Buxton and the
surrounding areas.
