Under all
the social programmes of the government and in the re-building of the
infrastructure Afro-Guyanese have benefited equally and it seems in some cases
far more than other sections of the community.
Look at
wages and salaries in the Public sector alone. These have increased by 550% over
those paid in 1992 with increase in allowances as well, which has resulted in
consequential increases in NIS pensions and other benefits.
The means
test was removed forthwith so that all those 65 years and over are able to
receive Old Age Assistance if even they have income from other sources.
Previously, if you earned only a very small income from some form of employment,
you were promptly disqualified.
In health
care, education, water supply and electricity and employment all Guyanese have
benefited without any discrimination. The distribution of house lots and the
opportunity to build and own their own homes have been extended to thousands of
Guyanese over the last ten years, regardless of race or political persuasion.
Charges
of marginalisation, discrimination and victimisation by the PNC/R is part off
their political propaganda to play the race card to create disharmony and
anarchy in the country to achieve selfish political ends, and these charges
cannot be substantiated.
